Another LOST Wordle
I know that I am having way too much fun with these wordles, but I really like the way this one looks. Had to post it, cause I like it so much.
LOST season 1 to 5 Finales
Since we have roughly 115 days til the final season finale, I thought I’d rank LOST’s season 1 to 5 finales. When I select one over another, it is because there are parts of it I personally like better. Without any of the finales, LOST wouldn’t be LOST; the show we have all come to love.
Exodus

I believe I am a season 1 purist and will always like that season, finale included, the most. It was new and fresh and there was so much promise and potential. The pictures I used to represent the finale are what I automatically think of when I think of Exodus, not necessarily my favorite moments. My favorite moments would be as follows.
Charlie bringing Aaron back to Claire.
Sawyer telling Jack about meeting Christian.
Introduction of the Black Rock and Arzt blowing up.
The launch of the raft, including when it first breaks, and especially when Vincent tries to swim out.
The montage at the end of everyone getting on the plane.
The Incident

In this case, the pictures match up with my favorite parts. The season 5 finale has an advantage to coming in second place. There is no season 6 yet and it is the freshest in my memory. It will be interesting to see how well it stands up when all is said and done. I’d also like to point out that only season 1 and 5 have ended on Island, the other seasons have all ended off Island.
The possible conclusion to Rose and Bernard’s story.
Jacob’s touch.
Locke’s body coming out of the cargo bin.
Meeting Jacob and the MIB.
Epic angst of Sawyer and Juliet.
Through the Looking Glass

LO did a lovely write up a couple days ago, so I will refer you to that. My favorite moments include some but definitely not all of hers.
Sayid killing the Other with his legs.
Hurley coming to the rescue in the Dharma van.
Sawyer and Juliet’s first collaborative effort.
Charlie’s sacrifice.
The flashforward reveal.
Live Together, Die Alone

Check out the visual theme carried over from the season 1 finale into the season 2 finale. Our losties looking into a hole. TPTB are not only brilliant with their use of recurring phrases, but also quite effectively use recurring pictoral themes to help tie their story together. Again, my pictures don’t reflect my favorite moments, but for various reasons, remind me of the finale. My favorite moments in the season 2 finale are as follows.
The reveal that Ben is important in the hierarchy of the Others.
Desmond’s backstory, which really covers a lot of the story.
Desmond turning the failsafe key, and the sky turning purple.
There's No Place Like Home

It was the only finale that officially had 3 parts, thus the 3 picture shout out. This would be my least favorite finale for the same reason the season was my least favorite season; too much of the O6, not enough on Island action and the people left behind. The thing that bothers me the most about it, was in season 3 when the first 6 episodes where basically Jack, Kate and Sawyer, everyone complained. TPTB said they realized it was a mistake and wouldn’t separate the Losties so much again. Then they went ahead and did it anyway, the very next season. Ah, well, my favorite moments include the following.
Nadia and Sayid’s reunion.
Ben’s “How many times do I have to tell you, John? I always have a plan.”
Ben getting revenge on Keamy.
Hurley’s surprise party.
Ben and John in the Orchid.
Desmond and Penny reunion.
Sawyer’s heroic jump from the helicopter.
So, now it is your guys turn to share you favorite finales and your favorite moments from them.

THE MUSIC OF LOST
Will anyone ever hear the song, Moonlight Serenade, and not have this picture in the back of your mind?
I will always think of Kate whenever I hear Patsy Kline.
LOST is brilliant with it’s use of music. Music is a part of our everyday lives whether we realize it or not. The way TPTB have carried this over to LOST is genius. They have included so many genres of different music, modern rock, classical, children’s songs, drinking songs, and even reggae and gospel. Some of my personal favorites, which I have on my mp3 player include Shambala by Three Dog Night, Ride Captain Ride by The Blues Image, Make Your Own Kind of Music by Mama Cass Elliot, Downtown by Petula Clark and I Shall Not Walk Alone by the Blind Boys of Alabama.
I also wanted to include shout outs to DriveShaft and Geronimo Jackson. What an amazing addition to the mythology of this show. These bands help expand and tie together the story lines and add an extra flair to draw you into the story even more. I have Dharma Lady on my mp3 and a Geronimo Jackson tee shirt.
If is isn’t enough that TPTB have spent time adding all this music we were familiar with before we ever watched LOST, they hire a brilliant musician to compose LOST’s own original soundtrack. Michael Giacchino’s music touches our hearts and adds to our character’s adventures each week. I’ve read that JJ Abrams liked the soundtrack to Medal of Honor, a video game, which Giacchino composed and got in contact with him. Giacchino composed for Alias and has continued his relationship with JJ Abrams, working on LOST and Star Trek too. He uses a unique blend of strings, piano, percussion, and harp, played classically as well as unconventionally, plus the unorthodox sounds of trombones to achieve the sound we have come to recognize as the LOST soundtrack. The Life and Death theme is by far the easiest to recognize and has to be my favorite. Spiritseeker has mentioned that she is able to play it by ear, which is wonderful. For those of us not so talented, there is sheet music online which you can download and pick out on your favorite instrument. Giacchino has also developed themes for the different characters. One of my favorite character themes belongs to Ben. My other favorite themes include Sawyer and Juliet’s theme, used heavily in LaFleur and the soundtrack to the phone call in The Constant.
I have two question for you to answer today. First, what is your favorite music in LOST? And without looking it up on Lostpedia, when did we hear Moonlight Serenade for the second time in LOST?

INFAMOUS LOST HAIRPIECES

Claire's was probably the least awful of them all. I don't know whether that is good or bad. At least they didn't attach it with a cloth bandana. Maybe that was because it was already being used by Naomi.
Had to blog these for posterity.

A hairpiece held on by a cloth bandana? Really? Poor Naomi, and I thought LOST was being cheap with their medical expense budget.

Jack's beard became almost as important at the end of season 3 as the character of Jack. People online were demanding they give Jack's beard guest star credit.

Maybe we should have seen the beard coming. The beginning of season 2 Jack sported a nifty "Party of Five" do.

Even Sawyer couldn't escape those LOST hairstylists. They couldn't keep their hands out of his hair, and had to put on extensions for the beginning of season 2. One of the best moves Kate ever made was cutting them off.

I remember seeing Boone in Expose and wondering why he was wearing one of those Daniel Boone caps kids wore in the 50's. I was actually looking for the racoon tail hanging off the back. Maybe it was a shout out, Daniel Boone/Boone Carlyle?

Nuff said.

Ben's bangs aren't a good look on any guy, but especially on Ben. He doesn't carry this look off well at all.

A tribute to 2 of my favorite writers from LOST.
Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.
Kitsis and Horowitz were hired at the end of the first season of LOST and have written episodes in all 5 seasons. They have written together since college and their tv credits include Felicity, another JJ Abrams series. They also helped write the screenplay for the Tron movie coming out later this year.
My favorite Kitsis and Horowitz episode would be Tricia Tanaka is Dead.

I think this episode best features all their writing strengths. They do comedy well. The Reyes family is a good example of this. They played on the running gag of the golden Jesus statue, the bit with the fortune teller, even Hurley's dad and the chocolate bars, which crossed over to back story too for Hurley. There was also the conversation of the only 3 things a woman needs to hear between Sawyer and Jin. This episode had a lot of pop culture references which are witty and smart.
They can do genuine, emotionally honest scenes well too. Examples would include Hurley bearing his soul to Libby at her grave site. Hurley calling Charlie out from his worrying, proving their friendship. Strong male bonding scenes between Hurley, Sawyer, Jin and Charlie. They even spend a little time on the couples coming back together in a music montage at the end.
I think they do what I would call hopeful, feel good scenes well. The entire episode was about restoring hope. Hope for the Losties by just having some fun together. Hope for Hurley that the numbers really weren't cursed and his father was a changed man and didn't come back for just the money. Throwing Vincent in the day helped add another layer of feel good for us animal lovers.
My other top episodes would include Greatest Hits, Expose, Born to Run, Dave and Something Nice Back Home. Some of their weaker episodes, in my opinion, would include Every Man for Himself (my least favorite Sawyer episode), D.O.C., and Fire + Water. But I don't hate any of these episodes. Their other episodes include Everybody Hates Hugo, Three Minutes, The Economist, Ji Yeon, The Lie, This Place is Death, He's Our You and The Variable.

James "Sawyer" Ford aka James LaFleur
I was going to title Sawyer's write up as "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." But I figure, it's been used before and you guys already get the idea. I must at least say that I have loved watching Sawyer's transformation from a selfish loner to a responsible, contributing member of the community. I knew he could do it in season one when he had kept Sayid's fire going, even after Sayid had tortured him. He went from Sawyer to James, from a person who thought of himself as someone who didn't deserve love, to someone devastated when the love he finally found slipped away to her death. I've shared my concerns for Sawyer this season and am worried TPTB won't honor Juliet's death and send Sawyer back to Kate. Only time will tell, and I have 30 more days I am refusing to worry about it.
Hugo "Hurley" Reyes
Some argue my #2 pick is comic relief and that is basically his only function. I argue that Jorge Garcia is a fine actor, doing comedy well but also having a firm grip on drama too. In the episode, "Dave", when Hurley is talking to Dr. Brooks about his weight problem, feeling responsible for the deck coming down and killing those people; it gets to me every time. Plus, I love the entire Reyes family. If anyone deserves a spinoff after LOST is over, it is the Reyes. Need to add a shout out here to Carmen Reyes. She is a character like Doc Arzt, line for line, some brilliantly, funny stuff.
Sayid Jarrah
Whenever I watch LOST with my sister, she always reminds me my #3 pick, Sayid, was right about "Henry Gale". He has had an interesting dynamic in his relationship to Ben, especially through season 4 and 5. Sayid felt and showed remorse for torturing Sawyer and he killed one of the Others with his legs, how impressive was that? I am worried about Sayid for season 6. Being gut shot and lying in the jungle for hours is almost as bad as being pulled to the bottom of a hole and hitting an atomic bomb with a rock.
John Locke
How cool is it for a character to be in a coffin at the end of three different seasons and we still know he is a main character and will be featured prominently in the next season? (Guess I could qualify season 3, cause we didn't really know then, but you get what I mean.) Locke probably deserves to be higher than #4 on my list, but I never got into his character like many of his loyal, devoted fans. It may have something to do with the horrible, evil stepfather he played in the 1987 movie, The Stepfather, which totally creeped me out and I can still remember quite vividly; but I digress.
Danielle makes #5 on my list of favorites from season 1. It could be argued that Danielle is a minor character, but I feel her story and appearances qualify her as a major one. Of all the characters on LOST, I feel Danielle's is the most tragic. Coming to the Island at such a young age, losing her husband, and baby, and just having to survive day by day is such a sad story. The grim ending of her life wraps up her bleak story in a heartbreaking but fitting way. She was also introduced as a mysterious character, and I think her story unfolded through the seasons in a sad but interesting way.
Rose Nadler
Again it could be argued that my #6 choice is a minor character, but she has had her own centric, shared with Bernard, of course. If Locke is the man of faith on LOST, Rose would be the woman of faith on LOST. TPTB have a great character they've established with Rose, but I guess older average looking women don't hold a tv audiences attention or do especially well in the ratings. I loved when Charlie turned to her to pray with him and Rose and Bernard's reunion always makes me teary.
Kate Austen
Kate makes my #7 pick as favorite character of season 1. She totally had me at "No girl's exactly like me." And then they surprised me with her being the marshall's prisoner. I loved her up to season 4. After that it has been a downhill slide. She was so independent and impressive as a girl on the run taking care of herself and not stopping for anything. Her indecision between Jack and Sawyer was entertaining and understandable up to season 3, episode 6; but after that it descended into a silly soap opera, designed to torture us shippers. TPTB succeeded in torturing shippers, they also succeeded in ruining Kate's character. I want to like Kate, I really do. But with the way TPTB have made her so unperceptive as to why and how she behaves is ridiculous and tiring. I don't hate Kate, just am very weary of her and her odd behavior.
Shannon Rutherford and Boone Carlyle
Honorable mention goes to the stepsiblings Shannon and Boone. Boone was a great student to Locke's teaching. And Shannon was a nice contrast to all the useful and kind characters we had met. I loved their quirky relationship and I think they each had a lot more potential than we ever got to see. Plus Ian makes a lovely vampire on The Vampire Diaries, but I digress.
My favorite minor characters of season 1 of LOST.

Doc Arzt
Doc Arzt is my #1 favorite minor character of season 1. Line for line, he's had some of the best of any of the characters in the entire series. Unfortunately, he is another character that has had an iconic death too. I must have rewatched him blow up 5 or 6 times and screamed every time, til I figured out that he blows up right after he says "...temperamental..."

The Smoke Monster
AKA Cerberus or more affectionately, Smokey, my #2 pick is a character of mystery. We have been finding out a little more about him every season, but we still don't know a whole lot. I tend to like these mysterious characters the best. Favorite Smokey moment was him going head to head with Juliet at the sonic fence.

Christian Shepherd
Christian is my #3 pick for season 1. There is still mystery as to why we've seen him on Island; we all have our favorite theories, but hopefully season 6 will answer us definitively. I understand Christian was an alcoholic, but I think of all the bad dads on LOST, Christian provided a good education for Jack and tried to get sober. At least he never stole Jack's kidney or killed Jack's mom.

Vincent
Doesn't the picture say it all? Vincent is just a feel good character that always makes you smile. And there is an air of mystery about him too, just rewatch the pilot if you have forgotten.

Leonard Simms
Leonard Simms is my #5 pick. Maybe cause I worked in mental health for over 5 years and actually had a resident that repeated numbers, or maybe cause of all the theories he's spawned, I'm not sure why I like him so much, but I do.

Sarah Shepherd
Honorable mention goes to Sarah Shepherd. Not being a Jack fan, this choice may surprising. But that is precisely why I like her, passive/aggressive as this choice may be. Many Jack fans enjoy trashing her online, how she misunderstood Jack, how could anyone have Jack and then not want him, how she could have another man. Really? I thought it was a great twist that the night Jack shares he kissed another woman, she had already been planning to leave him. You go girl! Plus she is awesome at comedy too, as the mom on Modern Family, but I digress.

My favorite new characters of season 2 of LOST.

Benjamin Linus aka Henry Gale
Ben edges out Desmond as my #1 pick for my season 2 favorites. From "I'm Henry Gale from Minnesota." to "Your friends are coming home with us." Ben had me. It's probably more accurate to say Michael Emerson's portrayal of Ben had me hooked. I could never make up my mind if Henry was telling the truth or not to our Losties. His "got milk" speech was classic. I enjoyed Ben's back story in seasons 3 and 5. Rounding up the O6 in season 4 was the best part of that season to me.

Desmond David Hume and Penny Widmore
Desmond is my #2 pick for season 2 only because his character isn't as well defined as Ben and TPTB seem to have wrapped up his story line. Personally, I'd rather see it wrapped up, Penny, Curly Charlie, and Desmond a happy family, than to see any one of them turn into a sacrifice the Island demanded. My shining Desmond moments would be his introduction, back story, and the Constant phone call. I feel I would be remiss if I didn't include a shout out to Penny, Desmond's faithful and loyal better half.

Pierre Chang
Mark Wickmund, Marvin Candle and Edgar Halliwax, will we ever find out what is up with all his aliases? My #3 pick for season 2 is a minor character, but I love the way TPTB introduced and developed his character within the framework of Dharma videos. Actually seeing him in Dharma times in season 5 and his interactions, especially with Miles, humanized his character further. Seeing his arm injured during the Incident was the cherry on top of this character's story.

Ana Lucia, Bernard, Mr. Eko and Libby
I'm lumping the Tailies together as my #4 pick from season 2. Three of the four died rather quickly after their introductions. Seventeen days in LOST time for Ana and Libby and 24 days in LOST time for Mr. Eko. I feel their characters had a lot more potential than we ever actually saw on screen. Don't misunderstand, I liked their stories; but I don't understand or appreciate TPTB introducing new characters, to basically kill them off. RIP Ana, Libby and Mr. Eko, we hardly knew you.

Charles Widmore
Honorable mention goes to Charles Widmore. Who would have thought when we saw him sitting in his fancy car trying to buy off Desmond that he had lived on the Island? My jury is still out as to which side I think Widmore will stand with in the end. I don't know if it will influence me, but he did play a deliciously evil, 25th amendment invoking Vice President in season 2 of 24, but I digress. [LOST/24 trivia fun fact: John Terry (Christian Shepherd), Daniel Dae Kim (Jin Kwon), and Michelle Forbes (Karen Decker, Oceanic spokesperson) all had roles in season 2 of 24; but again, I digress.]
